Deciding to become a volunteer at Bressingham Steam Museum

Operating the turntable on the Garden Line
My first ever visit to Bressingham Steam Museum was on 21st June this year when I received an email (I had subscribed to their mailing list earlier in the year) offering free entry for dads on Fathers' Day. We had been thinking of taking our two and a half year old son there for a couple of months as he recently discovered a liking for trains (along with cars and penguins), and a free ticket was just the impetus required.

Needless to say, from the moment we opened the car door and he heard one of the trains whistle my fate was sealed!

On our next visit in August we converted the day's tickets into season passes and over the next couple of months we visited another three or four times.

Dressing up for Hallowe'en
It was whilst attending the Hallowe'en special event and witnessing the effort that all of the staff and volunteers had put in that I decided I would like to become more involved. Whenever we have visited I've noticed that the steams trains and The Gallopers always manage to delight three generations.

I work in the IT industry delivering Information and Knowledge Management solutions to clients in the public and private sector. I also have a keen interest in photography and build websites amongst other things so I wanted to offer my skills to help enhance Bressingham's online presence as well as getting my hands dirty from time to time.

I sent an email enquiring about volunteering and promptly received a volunteer application form. All completed I emailed it back, and the wait whilst my referees were contacted began.
